One of the advantages to learning a second languages is for furthering one’s education. I have a friend who taught English to Japanese students in Japan while she was in college. She was lucky enough to be able to speak two languages- English and Japanese. She learned Japanese from a young age and decided to major it in for college. She hoped to become a translator for the government. The opportunity to teach English in Japan- one of the major cosmopolitan cities in the world- was hard to turn down. She was able to put the experience on resume. This secured her dream job as a government translator.
