There are many ways to do research when shopping for a new turtle as a pet before making the leap into buying one from a pet store or dealer or rescuing one from an animal shelter or aquarium. To begin, start by taking out some books from the library on turtles and keeping a pet turtle and what it is like. There are plenty of pet turtle information books in the local book store or library that are worth checking out. The Internet is also a great place for research if people do not have library cards or no longer with to purchase books. Research is at the fingertips of anyone willing to dig just a little bit on various Web sites. There are hundreds, maybe of even thousands of Web sites with information that can come up search engines like Google or Yahoo. To narrow some of it down, search by specific species if sure of what type of turtle you plan to purchase.
